After a hard-fought 24–21 defeat to No. 25 BYU, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders acknowledged that the moment seemed overwhelming for some players. “Sometimes it felt like the moment was just too big for some of our athletes,” Sanders said in a postgame interview.
The Buffaloes started strong, jumping to a 14–0 lead, but BYU responded with a 24–7 run that ultimately determined the outcome. Critical mistakes late in the game, including a fourth-quarter interception by quarterback Kaidon Salter and a controversial punt on 4th-and-6 with six minutes remaining, played a pivotal role in Colorado’s narrow loss.
Coach Sanders praised the talent on his roster but noted that execution under pressure was inconsistent. “We have the talent, but in big moments, some plays didn’t go our way,” he added.
The loss drops Colorado to 2–3 overall and 0–2 in Big 12 play, leaving the Buffaloes with a challenging schedule ahead. Their next matchup is against TCU, where Sanders previously secured his first win at Colorado in 2023.
Despite the setback, Sanders remains focused on helping his team learn from the experience and build resilience for the rest of the season.
