During the second quarter, Kelce and Reid exchanged intense words for the second consecutive week, culminating in Reid lightly bumping Kelce with his shoulder. Despite the visible tension, Reid remained composed afterward, calling the altercation “passion in action.” “I love Travis’ passion, man. I’m okay with that,” Reid said, emphasizing that the veteran tight end knows when to push limits and when to step back. “Sometimes I have to be the policeman. He’s an emotional guy.”
The sideline flare-up occurred as the Chiefs’ offense struggled to capitalize on a defensive turnover. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who didn’t witness the exchange firsthand, praised Kelce’s energy, describing him as a player whose drive and intensity have fueled his long-standing success in the league. Kelce, now in his 13th NFL season, was unavailable for comment following the game.
This wasn’t the first public clash between Reid and Kelce. Earlier in the season, during a close 20–17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce slammed his helmet and shouted at Reid on the sideline. Yet, the coach has repeatedly expressed understanding for Kelce’s fiery temperament, viewing it as a reflection of his commitment to the team.
With this win, the Chiefs hope to gain momentum as they look to build consistency, while Reid and Kelce continue to channel their competitive fire for the team’s benefit.
