Cardinals Place Trey Benson on Injured Reserve

The Arizona Cardinals have placed rookie running back Trey Benson on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury late in the team’s loss to Seattle. The move means Benson will be sidelined for at least the next four games, though the team expects him to return later this season.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed the roster change, noting that Benson underwent a minor procedure to address a meniscus issue.

The setback comes at a difficult time for Arizona’s backfield. Veteran James Conner has already been lost for the year with an ankle injury, leaving the team short on proven options. With Benson now unavailable, Emari Demercado is expected to lead the rushing attack, supported by Michael Carter and Bam Knight.

To add depth, the Cardinals signed running back Jermar Jefferson to the practice squad.

Benson had been off to a promising start in his rookie season, rushing for 160 yards at an impressive 5.5 yards per carry and catching 13 passes for 64 yards through the first four games. His absence will be felt as the Cardinals prepare for upcoming matchups against the Titans, Colts, Packers, and Cowboys.
